This variety is neither Italian nor a Riesling, and it's not even related to Rheinriesling. Its exact origin is shrouded in mystery – what is certain is that it arrived in the Carpathian Basin from Western Europe and truly found its place here: both the temperature, the soil, and the slopes are favorable to it. In Hungary, it is one of the most common white wines, perhaps precisely because of its easy manageability and diversity. It is suitable for making both light white wines and full-bodied, long-aging bottles.
