Szepsy 6 puttonyos aszú 2013 (0,5 L)

Vintage: 2013

The year of 2013 started with a long cold winter and some late snow, delaying the blooming of the vines. After a warm and dry summer that helped the ripening of the bunches the autumn was cold and rainy again. Despite of the weather conditions 2013 was a wellbalanced vintage and resulted in concentrated wines with relatively high acidity but with good balance and a long aging potential. From middle of October till the end of November small amount, but very high quality botrytised parts of bunch were harvested. The sweet wines from the vintage show a lot of fruitiness and carry dynamic, clean taste.

Vinification:

The grapes for the base wine were harvested from Szent Tamás vineyard from 55 years old stocks, in overripe condition. The sugar content of the must was 270 g/l, after 6 hours long maceration and gently pressing the must fermented to 13 %v/v alcohol. The selection of aszú /fully botrityzed berries from Furmint, Hárslevelű and Muscat Lunel varieties started in the middle of October and lasted a month long in several stages from Szent Tamás, Betsek and Úrágya vineyards. The must weight of the aszú berries was 60 MM°. Pure essecnia was not separated from the must.

The maceration of the aszú berries started in the second half of November with the still fermenting 13% v/v alcohol content base vine. The aszú berries directly were not punching in order to reach the cleanest taste. The proportion: 6 parts of aszú berries went into 5 parts of base wine. The aszú berries were macerated for 48 hours, then pressed gently without reaching the fully dry condition. ‘Fordítás’ was not produced.

The main fermentation lasted for about 3 months then the slow fermentation continued. The final aszú wine was matured 2 and half years in 300 litres big 2 years old Zemplén oak barrels, went into bottles April 19th 2016 and was aged for two more years in bottles before releasing.
