The local wine consortium's winery, Produttori di Manduria, is a large cooperative that harvests and purchases grapes from the best areas in the region. Their wines primarily aim to showcase the region's traditional grape variety, Primitivo, and through it, the beauty of the wine region.
Elegia is Produttori di Manduria's flagship Primitivo red wine. It is made from grapes harvested from 35-50 year old so-called "alberello" trained old vines, which are essentially bush-trained vines. It has a fruit bomb aroma with wild blackberries, dried plums, raspberry jam, and blueberries, with subtle vanilla, clove, and oriental spice cigar box notes in the background. A deep, spicy, and overripe fruity taste, yet elegant with a long finish and beautifully integrated tannins thanks to its firm acidity. It is aged for 12 months in French barrique barrels and is sold in the unmistakable shouldered "Primitivo" bottle.
It delivers everything consumers love about the big, "heavy" Primitivos.
