The local wine consortium's winery, Produttori di Manduria, is a large cooperative, but they harvest or purchase grapes from the best areas in the region. Their wines primarily aim to showcase the region's traditional variety, Primitivo, and through it, the beauty of the wine region.

Lirica Primitivo di Manduria is the best value-for-money Primitivo we have encountered. Gambero Rosso, Italy's leading wine guide, also awarded it the highest 3-glass rating.

The wine is made from Primitivo grapes harvested from 15-25 year old "alberello" and "espalier" trained vines. The former are practically bush-trained vines, while the latter are vines trained on trellises.

Very intense and elegant aroma, ripe dark fruits, cherry, plum, sweet spices (ginger and anise) with discreet and subtle oak notes. On the palate, a full and elegant structure, fine texture with elegant tannins, balanced freshness underneath, with a rather long and broad spicy finish.
