Founded in 1960, the cooperative is one of Italy's largest, uniting approximately 1000 farmers and 1500 hectares at an average altitude of 350 m above sea level, in Campania, in the lower part of the boot. They enter into individual contracts with viticulturists, in which they declare quality standards: pruning methods, shoot selection, green harvest, yield averages, and, of course, the harvest date. Their two main (local) varieties are the white Falanghina and the red Aglianico; these are characteristic only of this region. Some believe that the former has a great future ahead of it, its characteristics and versatility are similar to the Chardonnay variety, but it exhibits much more exciting tropical notes, its wine is full-bodied and very enjoyable, and it can be paired with a wide range of foods. There is no romance here; production is on a serious scale, as this is why the cooperative was established: 4 million bottles are filled annually under the wings of three brands, Janare, Fremondo, and Classico, but traditional sparkling wine is also produced. We are introducing the Janare family at home, because they contain the two characteristic traditional varieties, and they are strong both in external design and quality.
Jannare is the name of mythical, witch-like figures that the elders of the surrounding villages speak of in their tales. These are untameable, dynamic, and strong women (reportedly just like the ladies from this region in reality :), who stand against evil. During the day, they are human beings like any of us, but at night, after anointing themselves with an ointment, they transform into witches with gigantic power and travel by broom...
This wine is one of our personal favorites because it is special, unmistakable, and incredibly rich in aromas. Starting from flowers, through tropical fruits and sea salt, all the way to bitter almonds. It displays all of this in the taste as well; it is a full-bodied and complex wine, perhaps a little soft, but Mediterranean, originating from a very warm region, and we can forgive it for that. According to some wine writers, it has a great future ahead of it, precisely because of its uniqueness, popular characteristics, and easy gastronomic pairing. It convinced us, we often drink it at home, we stand by it and recommend it to everyone! It works wonderfully with homemade pasta, gnocchi, tomato sauce, carpaccios, Buffalo mozzarella, mussels, eggplant, soft cheeses...
