In Abruzzo, located in the middle of Italy, the Orsogna winery gradually switched to biodynamic viticulture years ago. Today, this is officially declared and certified (Demeter), and is indicated on the label. Beyond excluding chemicals from plant protection and winemaking, this represents an approach, a kind of creed, in which grapes are cultivated and wine is made during the growing season. Part of this is the preservation of biodiversity, terroir, local traditions, and recipes, the lowest possible water consumption, the use of mechanical pest control techniques instead of chemical ones, and avoiding mechanical soil disturbance. It is based on very strict rules and is consistently controlled.

Orsogna is recognized as the largest organic and biodynamic estate in the world (!), with 85% of its total cultivated area of 1200 ha being organic and 35% certified biodynamic by Demeter.

Regarding the wine, let's immediately dispel a misconception! Montepulciano here does not refer to the well-known and recognized Tuscan sub-region, but to the grape variety, which is found almost exclusively in this wine region, Abruzzo, a little unknown to Hungarians. Its characteristic feature is its explosive aromatic richness, which is why many compare it to Zweigelt, but this variety is much fuller-bodied, richer, and higher in alcohol. It is a fresh, rich, full-bodied, yet ethereal wine, with aromas of clove, dried plum, and leather, which pairs excellently with Italian cuisine.
