This drink is produced only in the best vintages, and is worthy of expressing the Taittinger style. The Chardonnay grapes are selected from the best Grand Cru plots of Côte des Blancs. Only the first, low-pressure pressing is used, and 5% of the base wine is aged for 3-4 months in new barrels, which gives the blend its uniqueness. The Champagne, presented in 18th-century antique-style bottles, is aged eighteen meters underground in the UNESCO-listed Saint-Nicaise cellars in Reims for at least eight years before being released onto the market. The year 2013 began with a very cold – temperatures fell below the ten-year average – snowy and frosty winter. Spring was also cool with abundant rainfall. Flowering started late in July. The extremely sunny and warm summer helped the grapes counterbalance the weather at the beginning of the year. The harvest was also delayed, starting on October 1st with the Chardonnay grapes.
The 2013 Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is simply breathtaking. It is deep and balanced, with aromas of citrus, fresh crisp fruits, fresh brioche, crushed limestone, almond, and subtle smokiness. The palate is medium-bodied, with a vibrant, fresh, mineral acidity and grapefruit flavors.
