The Taittinger Comtes de Champagne is the house's prestige cuvée, a Blanc de Blancs made entirely from Chardonnay, selected from the best Grand Cru vineyards of the prestigious Côte des Blancs. It is only produced when the quality of the vintage is exceptional and worthy of a vintage champagne.
During production, only must from the first pressing is used, and 5% of the base wines are aged in new oak barrels for four months – one-third of which are renewed annually – to further refine the character and complexity of the drink.
The artisanal champagne, filled into 18th-century style bottles, is aged for a minimum of eight years, 18 meters underground, in the UNESCO World Heritage listed Saint-Nicaise cellars in Reims, before being released.

“In the case of a freshly disgorged Comtes, we get surprisingly intense and generous aromas: vibrant, ripe lemon, juicy apple, and tropical notes – such as pineapple and yellow plum. The fruitiness intensifies on the palate, with spicy undertones and creamy pudding-like notes. Ten years on the lees fills the mid-palate with chalky richness and a mineral twist. The finish is elegant, light, and slightly salty. Although it doesn't have the density of the 2008 vintage, it beautifully shows that Chardonnay was truly excellent in 2011, and the overall impression evokes the superb 2007 Comtes.”
– Nick Baker, September 2021, TFB founder

The history of the house, originally known as Forest-Fourneaux, dates back to 1734. In 1932, Pierre Taittinger purchased the estate, and the Taittinger brand was born. The following century brought extraordinary development, as a result of which Taittinger became one of the largest champagne producers, and today it is one of the last great, independent, family-owned Champagne houses. Pierre-Emmanuel retired in 2019, and his daughter, Vitalie, took over his presidential position.
The estate has 288 hectares of vineyards, and the Taittinger style is characterized by a high proportion of Chardonnay grapes. In 2017, the house received two significant environmental certifications: "Viticulture Durable en Champagne" (Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne) and "Haute Valeur Environnementale" – HVE (High Environmental Value) qualifications.
