TBILVINO on the World Stage
– Georgian Excellence Recognized by International Awards

In our previous article, we introduced the history, values, and grape-based philosophy of the TBILVINO winery. After delving into historical depths and philosophical heights, it’s now time to shine a light on the tangible professional acknowledgments that affirm the winery’s efforts – at some of the most prestigious competitions in the world. TBILVINO is not just a guardian of Georgian wine culture, but an active shaper of it on the international stage.

Double Gold at One of the World’s Strictest Wine Competitions

The 2024 International Wine Challenge (IWC), held annually in London, proved to be exceptional for TBILVINO in many ways. Two of their wines were awarded gold medals, each scoring 95 points:

  • Qvevris Saperavi 2022

  • Saperavi Single Vineyard 2020

These awards are particularly valuable because the IWC is renowned for the strictness of its blind tasting process – wines are evaluated over several rounds, without labels or names, by Masters of Wine and leading experts. The results depend purely on the quality of the wine.

The jury was captivated by the complex, inky character of the Qvevris Saperavi, with notes reminiscent of blackberries and a juicy structure, while the Single Vineyard showcased delicately layered spicy and fruity aromas. These wines mark a new chapter not only in style but also in winemaking philosophy at TBILVINO: a harmony of depth, origin, and technological precision.

Decanter World Wine Awards – The Georgian Kisi Wins for Value

At the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards, the Qvevris Kisi 2020 not only secured a gold medal but was also honored with the prestigious Value Award – reserved for wines that deliver outstanding quality at an affordable price. Its 95-point evaluation highlighted notes of candied citrus, tea, and floral tones – showcasing a unique balance of aromatics and aging potential.

Competition Results in Numbers – Stability and Performance

TBILVINO’s achievements are not the result of a single successful year. At the 2022 IWC, for example, they collected 18 medals, including:

  • 1 Trophy and 1 GoldKisi Special Reserve 2021

  • 6 Silver Medals – including Mukuzani, Qvevris Saperavi, Mtsvivani

  • 6 Bronze Medals – including Mtsvane, Tsinandali, Saperavi

This consistent record confirms that TBILVINO not only produces standout wines, but also maintains internationally recognized quality across its entire portfolio.

Behind the Medals: Global Attention and Industry Recognition

International participation brings more than just medals – it creates strategic opportunities. At ProWein 2024, TBILVINO was present with two stands, offering not only their core portfolio but also interactive tastings. The feedback was not only polite but professionally significant – coming from notable figures such as:

  • Sue Daniels (Marks & Spencer)

  • Sarah Abbot MW

  • Emma Dawson MW

  • Robert Joseph

These awards and endorsements opened up new export markets:

  • United KingdomMarks & Spencer FOUND project

  • USADirect Wines and Wall Street Journal Wine Club

  • China – Long-term partnership with a major distributor

  • Ukraine & Turkey – New distribution agreements

Harvest, Viticulture, Innovation – The Foundation Behind the Awards

During the 2023 harvest, TBILVINO not only processed high-quality grapes but also made technological advancements. Targeted shoot thinning and crop reduction in the Vachnadziani and Shashiani blocks, as well as the introduction of French mechanical harvesting, all contributed to improved quality.

The winery also launched three major projects supported by a €12 million EBRD investment:

  • Construction of a qvevri cellar using natural materials

  • Installation of a new, energy-efficient bottling line

  • Replanting indigenous grape varieties – currently managing 405 hectares of owned vineyards

These investments are designed to support the winery’s long-term goals of quality and sustainability – the very foundation upon which international success is built.

Awards Don’t Grow Themselves – At TBILVINO, It’s the Land, the Grapes, and the People That Create Value

TBILVINO’s competition results are not self-serving trophies, but the natural outcome of a winery driven by dedication, consistency, and a forward-thinking mindset. Georgian winemaking is ancient, but TBILVINO has ushered in a new era – one where heritage is not only remembered, but acted upon, and where quality is recognized by the world’s most discerning judges.
