Szepsy Mád Késői szüret 2021 (0,75 L)

This Mád Late Harvest is the tangible result of István Szepsy Sr's parcel and clonal selection work that has been conducted for 32 years. Parcel 3574 of the Urbán vineyard, which serves as the backbone, consists of Furmint clones that were selected from Urban’s parcel 3573 and Szent Tamás’ parcel 068/46, planted in 2016. The grapes have proven for many years that they are not prone to rot, so in a year like 2021, they are perfect for Late Harvest wine. It was a cool, dry, windy autumn, so besides the high acidity, the berries shrivelled nicely. The exciting experiment shows how rich, full-bodied and harmonious the variety is on the nose and the palate, without botrytis, but at maximum ripeness. It was fermented in temperature-controlled tanks, aged for six months in new and second-fill, 300-litre oak barrels and was bottled with 86.2 grams of residual sugar. Showing its place of origin, it’s undeniably mineral, vibrant, subtly sweet and fruity, with quince, pear and citrus.
